Pairs — spot the matching objects hiding in plain sight

Pairs is a focus game in LEVO's brain-games library. A board fills with cozy little objects — mugs, plants, clocks, cookies, kites — and hidden among the one-of-a-kind items sit a few identical twins. Your job is to find each matching pair by sight and tap the two alike, until the board is clear. Everything stays face-up the whole time, so this is pure visual search, not recall: unlike Origami Match — LEVO's Memory-shelf game, where cards flash, flip face-down, and you match them from memory — Pairs never hides anything. The only pressure is the clock. It is a spot-the-pair attention-and-speed test, which is why it lives on the Focus shelf.

How to play

Each round deals a board of small drawn objects. Most appear exactly once — those are decoys — but a handful are dealt as identical pairs. Scan the board, find two objects that are the same, and tap one then the other: a correct pair flashes, adds points, and vanishes in place, leaving the rest of the board untouched. Tap two objects that don't match and you lose a few points, so it pays to be sure before the second tap. Clear every pair on the board to finish the round, and finish all of a level's rounds before the countdown runs out to win. Early boards are laid out in a tidy grid; higher levels scatter and tilt the objects and thin out the colours, until the hardest boards are a single colour and only shape gives the pair away.

Visual recognition — Telling near-identical little shapes apart at a glance, and spotting the two that truly match, helps sharpen how quickly you identify visual patterns.
Visual processing speed — A running clock rewards finding each pair fast, which helps speed up how fast you interpret and react to visual stimuli.

Levels & progression

50 levels, complexity-based. Each level is a short series of boards (rounds) played under one shared countdown — clear every board before it runs out. Two layers of adaptivity: within a level, a clean board (no wrong taps) makes the next harder — more objects, more pairs, fewer distinguishing colours — while a sloppy one eases it back; across the 50 levels, the adaptive tier label tracks your climb — Novice, Regular, Adept, Master, Expert. No lives, no score goal: just clear the boards before the clock.

What does Pairs help improve?

Pairs lists three skills it helps improve: focus (holding a careful scan across a crowded board), visual recognition (telling similar little shapes apart and spotting the two that match), and visual processing speed (finding each pair quickly under a running clock).

How is Pairs different from Origami Match?

They both involve finding pairs, but they train opposite things. Pairs is a Focus game: every object stays visible, and you spot the matching ones by sight — a visual-search task. Origami Match is a Memory game: the cards show briefly, flip face-down, and you remember where the matches are. Pairs never hides anything; the challenge is attention and speed, not recall.

Is Pairs timed?

Yes. Each level runs a short series of boards against a single countdown, and you win by clearing every board before it expires. Wrong taps cost a few points but never end the round — you keep hunting until the board is clear or time runs out.
