Missing Numbers — rebuild the equation, one digit at a time

How to play

Each round puts a handwritten equation on the blackboard with one number replaced by gray boxes — one box per digit, so the boxes themselves tell you how long the answer is. Type the missing number on the numeric keypad (on a laptop, your keyboard's digits work too); the delete key clears the last digit. The moment the final box fills, the game checks your answer. Correct: a green flash, points added, and a fresh equation. Wrong: a red flash, points deducted, and a review screen showing your crossed-out attempt above the corrected equation — the timer waits until you dismiss it. Equations range from a single operation up to two-operator expressions where × and ÷ bind before + and −, so the blank isn't always where the easy arithmetic is.

What it helps improve

• Quantitative reasoning — Working an equation backwards from its result exercises your ability to understand and manipulate numerical relationships, not just compute forwards.
• Brain processing speed — The countdown and the streak-based difficulty push you to handle and respond to numerical information faster with every round.
• Estimation — The digit boxes reward a quick approximation first ("two digits, around forty…") before you commit — practice in fast, accurate approximations.

Levels & progression

50 levels, each a timed round with a score goal — correct answers earn points, mistakes cost points, and hitting the goal before the countdown ends clears the level. Inside a round the equations adapt to you: keep answering correctly and they grow harder; miss one and they ease back. Because every question is generated fresh, the game never runs out, and your rank climbs from Novice through Regular, Adept, and Master to Expert.
